1D XHTML Research Melissa McElwee XHTML 1.0 is the first reformulation of HTML into XML as compiled by W3C in 1998. This was after the W3C had finished working on HTML 4.01, HTML 4.0, HTML 3.2, and HTML 2.0. The X in XHTML stands for eXtensible; so it is the extended version of HTML. The uses XHTML 1.0 are still being extended today, as developers are coming out with new ways of doing things. XHTML 1.0 was designed with both the old and new ways in mind. It is compatible with older browsers as well as newer systems like cell phones and other devices. This makes it a must for anyone wanting to stay on top of the ever-changing technology scene.
