College of Business and Technology Receives $200,000 Endowment

CHICAGO--Lake Michigan City College was recently the recipient of a $200,000 endowment for the College of Business and Technology. The gift was given by Mrs. Edna Nez. Mrs. Nez graduated from the college in 1932 and for many years taught high school at Trinity High School in Syracuse, New York. The Dean of the Department, Mary Teterion, says the department will use it to offer scholarships to inner city youth who are part of the concurrent enrollment classes.

Mrs. Nez stated: I had to work full time for two years to save up enough money to pay for my classes, and when I was enrolled, I still had to fit in 40 hours to pay my books and tuition. It was rough, but I managed. My only wish is that I’d had more time to devote to my studies. Hopefully, the scholarships the College is planning to offer will enable students to focus their energies on their education. There will be plenty of time to work after graduation.
