Art Contest


Ever wanted to be an artist? Thanks to the Student Art Contest at Lake Michigan City College, you can be.

The Student Art Contest, held during the spring semester, will feature five age groups. Winners in each age group will receive $50, and the Best In Show winner will receive $100. This year, the teach of the artist who wins Best In Show will receive $50.

"Lake Michigan City College recognizes the importance of creativity and the arts in the lives of students," said organizer James Smith. "Scientific studies have shown that students who participate in the arts score higher and make better grades in math and science."

The five age groups are as follows:
Pre-Kindergarden - Grade 3
Grades 4-5
Grades 6-8
Grades 9-12
Lake Michigan City College Students

All student work will be displayed in Jeannette Salazar Hall. The deadline to submit work is March 20.

All Work submitted should be clearly labeled on the back with the artist's name, home address, school, phone number, and teacher's name.

For the past 10 years, the art contest has showcased award-winning artists. Artists this year will showcase traditional arts and crafts, paintings, jewelry, watercolors, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass, photography, fiber art, handmade musical instruments, glassware, and more.
